Fire, Water & Climate: Policy Implications for Summit County

Thursday, August 13, 2009: 7-9 pm

Breckenridge Town Hall Auditorium

150 Ski Hill Road, Breckenridge, Colorado

The relationship between fire, water and climate can be a dramatic one as those who reside in high elevation forested landscapes can attest.

To provide perspective on how the dynamics between fire, water and climate might affect the quality of life experienced by local residents over the long-term, Our Future Summit is hosting a community forum from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, this Thursday, August 13th at Breckenridge Town Hall open to all.
Panelists who will be contributing to a conversation about potential impacts to public safety, the availability of water, insurance rates, as well as economic and population growth include Tom Easley, Rocky Mountain Climate Organization, Jim Pokrandt, Colorado River Water Conservation District, State Farm Insurance agent George Osbourne and underwriter Lee Hubbard, Joel Cochran, Summit County Emergency Management, Steve Hill, Summit County Fire Council and Lyle Laverty, who has held numerous high-profile regional and national posts with the U.S. Forest Service.

According to Our Future Summit president and forum moderator Howard Hallman, "the goal of Thursday’s event is to focus on practical and affordable local solutions for fire, water and climate change issues facing the American West."

"We will be looking closely at what works and what doesn't, while evaluating the consequences of doing nothing,” he adds.

Inquiries about Thursday's forum may be directed to Howard Hallman at 719-491-1807 or Sandy Briggs at 970-389-0987.
